The 137th running of the Irish Derby was held on Sunday 30 June 2002 over 1 mile 4 furlongs of The Curragh. Subscriptions were €17,050 with a first prize of €749,355. The winner was owned by Mrs Susan Magnier and Mr Michael Tabor, bred in Ireland by Sean Coughlan, trained by Aidan O'Brien at Ballydoyle, and ridden by Mick Kinane. The winner won by 3 1/2 lengths in 2 minutes 32.2 seconds, with 1 1/2 lengths between second and third.
